You don’t have to go too far to capture special architecture shots. All you have to do is lift your head up. This is one major tip I received from my mentor. LOOK UP! We usually walk around and see only a small range of what’s offered to us by our surroundings. If we only remember to look up (look down will come in another chapter), we will be surprised to discover a whole new perspective for those of us who wish to take urban photography one step further
I love street architecture. I think buildings each have a life of their own, a story of their own, which they continuously share with us by-passers. Lots of them look alike but still every one of them is different than the other. Just like us… Some of the chosen ones succeed in becoming famous and are recognized by most people worldwide. Just like us
Some buildings totally fit their environment whereas some look like outsiders. I like to take my camera and start shooting tons of pictures of buildings. The nice part of this experience is to come home and start picking the good shots. I like playing with angles and perspective, thus getting a unique result each time
I once took a picture of the inside of a very special building in Shanghai and loved the results, although I was the only one around admiring my picture. Upon my return home, I stumbled into an article about that building, and I swear they had the exact replica of my picture in the paper. Some professional photographer must have thought of the same perspective as me. At that moment I knew I was on the right track.
